{"id":10088,"date":"2025-06-18T02:28:18","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T02:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=10088"},"modified":"2025-06-18T02:28:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T02:28:18","slug":"alcaraz-and-raducanu-to-team-up-in-revamped-us-open-mixed-doubles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=10088","title":{"rendered":"Alcaraz and Raducanu to team up in revamped US Open mixed doubles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nine of the world\u2019s top-10 men and nine of the top-10 women have officially entered into the US Open\u2019s revamped mixed doubles event, tournament organisers said on Tuesday, with former singles champions Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu teaming up.<\/p>\n<p>The competition, which will take place a week before the singles main draw during its \u201cFan Week\u201d, will award $1 million in prize money to the winning team.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen teams have entered and the entry window closes on July 28, after which the top eight teams with the best combined singles ranking will be in the draw via direct acceptance, with eight more wildcard entries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn our initial discussions about reimagining and elevating the US Open mixed doubles championship, we wanted to find a way to showcase the world\u2019s best men and women competing with and against one another,\u201d USTA CEO Lew Sherr said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were confident that we would be able to get the top players in the game excited about this unique opportunity. Seeing the teams that have already put their names on the entry list makes us all incredibly excited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shows that the players are behind what we are trying to do, and we know that the fans will love it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other pairs include twice US Open champion Naomi Osaka teaming up with Nick Kyrgios, as well as Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas.<\/p>\n<p>The matches will be best of three sets, with short sets to four games, no-ad scoring, tiebreakers at four-all and a 10-point tiebreak in lieu of a third set.<\/p>\n<p>The final will be a best-of-three set match to six games.<\/p>\n<p>Although a number of big names such as Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Naomi Osaka have entered, the format came in for criticism from renowned doubles players.<\/p>\n<p>Reigning champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori said the new format was a \u201cprofound injustice\u201d that disrespects doubles players, describing the new event as a \u201cpseudo-exhibition focused only on entertainment and show\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The US Open had said the changes were made following the success of the \u201cMixed Madness\u201d exhibition event held ahead of last year\u2019s tournament, which paired up a number of high-profile singles players into teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaking decisions just following the logic of profit is profoundly wrong in some situations,\u201d Italians Errani and Vavassori had said.<\/p>\n<p>The pair have entered the competition this year.<\/p>\n<p>Mixed doubles entry list<br \/>\nEmma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz<\/p>\n<p>Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud<\/p>\n<p>Emma Navarro and Jannik Sinner<\/p>\n<p>Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov<\/p>\n<p>Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic<\/p>\n<p>Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios<\/p>\n<p>Qinwen Zheng and Jack Draper<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Pegula and Tommy Paul<\/p>\n<p>Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti<\/p>\n<p>Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz<\/p>\n<p>Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev<\/p>\n<p>Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe<\/p>\n<p>Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas<\/p>\n<p>Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton<\/p>\n<p>Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka serves up apology to Gauff after French Open final comments<br \/>\nWorld number one Aryna Sabalenka said she has apologised to Coco Gauff after dismissing the American\u2019s maiden French Open triumph, adding that she regrets the comments she made about the 21-year-old after the final.<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka had been poised for victory after claiming the opening set in a tiebreak, only to watch Gauff orchestrate a stunning 6-7(5) 6-2 6-4 comeback to claim her second Grand Slam title.<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka made 70 unforced errors in the final and later said at a press conference that Gauff won \u201cnot because she played incredible, (but) because I made all of those mistakes\u201d \u2014 comments she has since regretted making.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just totally unprofessional of me, I let my emotions get the better of me. I absolutely regret what I said back then,\u201d Sabalenka told Eurosport. \u201cWe all make mistakes. I\u2019m only human and I\u2019m still learning in life. We all have those days when we lose control.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe difference with me is that the world watches me do it, I get a lot more hate afterwards for what I did than other people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sabalenka said she had reached out to Gauff personally afterwards to apologise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to apologise and make sure that she knows that she absolutely deserved to win the tournament and that I respect her. I never intended to attack her,\u201d Sabalenka added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was super emotional and not very smart at that press conference. I\u2019m not necessarily grateful for what I did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took me a while to look at it again, to go into it with my eyes open and to understand.
