{"id":11036,"date":"2025-07-29T03:44:06","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T03:44:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=11036"},"modified":"2025-07-29T03:44:06","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T03:44:06","slug":"kp-govt-monitoring-tirah-situation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=11036","title":{"rendered":"KP govt \u2018monitoring\u2019 Tirah situation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KHYBER\/KARACHI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has claimed that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was \u201cin contact\u201d with the \u201crelevant administration\u201d over the shooting of protesters in Tirah.<\/p>\n<p>Seven people were fired at after a demonstration outside the Brigade Headquarters in Bagh-Maidan Markaz on Sunday against the death of a minor girl in a mortar strike.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had condemned the \u201cfiring on peaceful citizens by khawarij\u201d \u2014 the state\u2019s terminology for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Paki\u00adstan (TTP).<\/p>\n<p>However, sources and eyewitnesses said security personnel guarding the installation had reportedly opened fire to control the crowd after the demonstration took a violent turn.<\/p>\n<p>Bar Qambarkhel tribesmen march against militant presence in restive valley<\/p>\n<p>A number of those who lost their lives on Sunday were laid to rest in the Bagh Markaz and Peer Mela localities of Tirah.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the seven deaths, at least 16 people sustained gunshot wounds. There has been no official statement from the local administration or the military about the mortar strike or Sunday\u2019s killings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chief minister is in constant contact with the relevant admi\u00adn\u00adistration,\u201d Dawn.com quo\u00adted CM Gandapur\u2019s adviser, Barri\u00adster Mohammad Ali Saif, as saying on Monday. He said the KP chief minister was \u201cmonitoring\u201d the Tirah incident himself.<\/p>\n<p>Local sources claimed that security officials had accepted the tribesmen\u2019s demand for compensation to the families of the deceased and injured tribesmen. However, no FIR has been lodged.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, the PTI has called for an immediate and impartial inquiry into the Tirah incident, and asked for those responsible to be held accountable.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram said that the use of live ammunition against unarmed civilians was not only unjustifiable but also a blatant violation of basic human rights and democratic principles.<\/p>\n<p>TTP \u2018withdrawal\u2019 demanded<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Bar Qambarkhel tribe in the restive Tirah valley temporarily suspended its week-long protest against the presence of militants in Tirah after representatives of the banned TTP reportedly asked for some time to hold talks with their leadership in Afgh\u00ada\u00adnistan on the demand for their withdrawal from the valley.<\/p>\n<p>Sources told Dawn that the decision to suspend the sit-in was announced during a jirga in Lar Bagh, after \u2018successful negotiations\u2019 between the Bar Qambar\u00adkhel elders and TTP representatives in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Sources said the jirga was told that militant commanders had sought time till Aug 5.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Malak Zahir Shah had led a protest of hundreds of tribesmen, carrying the Holy Quran in their hands, and demanded the TTP men leave their area.<\/p>\n<p>They staged a sit-in in Bhutan Shareef, saying they would only end their protest when given assurances that the militants would exit the area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KHYBER\/KARACHI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has claimed that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was \u201cin contact\u201d with the \u201crelevant administration\u201d over the shooting of protesters in Tirah.
