{"id":11626,"date":"2025-08-27T23:56:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T23:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=11626"},"modified":"2025-08-27T23:56:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T23:56:17","slug":"trump-again-claims-tariff-threats-ended-pakistan-india-conflict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=11626","title":{"rendered":"Trump again claims tariff threats ended Pakistan-India conflict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>United States President Donald Trump once again claimed credit on Tuesday for ending the conflict between India and Pakistan, saying that his threat of extremely high tariffs was instrumental in reaching a ceasefire agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Participating in a cabinet meeting at the White House yesterday, the US president reiterated the claim that his intervention was directly responsible for the end of the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndia and Pakistan were gonna end up in a nuclear war if I didn\u2019t stop them,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cI saw seven jets were shot down \u2026 $150 million planes were shot down; seven, maybe more than that, they didn\u2019t even report the real number.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump added that he had spoken to both India and Pakistan at the time of the conflict, asking them what was going on between them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hatred was tremendous,\u201d he said, saying that the conflict had been going on, \u201csometimes with different names\u201d, for hundreds of years.<\/p>\n<p>Without specifying whether he had been speaking to India or Pakistan, the president said that he had refused to make a trade deal if the two countries ended up in a nuclear war, which had proven pivotal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said, \u2018Call me back tomorrow, but we\u2019re not gonna do any deals with you,\u2019\u201d Trump said, \u201c\u2018Or \u2026 we\u2019re gonna put tariffs on you so high, I don\u2019t give a damn, your head\u2019s gonna spin. You\u2019re not gonna end up in a war.\u2019 Within about five hours, it was done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alluding to the possibility that the conflict could begin again, he said, \u201cI don\u2019t think so, but I\u2019ll stop it if it does. We can\u2019t let these things happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for ending the conflict between India and Pakistan, while also regularly threatening steep tariffs on countries that \u2014 including hiking tariffs on India to 50 per cent for continuing to buy Russian crude oil, a move that took effect today.<\/p>\n<p>India has denied the claim that the US president was responsible for brokering the ceasefire via trade threats.
