Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday termed his meeting with the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto \u201cextremely productive and gratifying\u201d, as the two pledged to expand bilateral trade ties.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a ceremony held for the signing of several memoranda of understanding between Indonesia and Pakistan, PM Shehbaz detailed the pair\u2019s discussions and said, \u201cWhat we have decided is [\u2026] to promote our bilateral trade, culture, interact in the medical health, education, and vocational training.\u201d<\/p>\n
He vowed to \u201cwork closely\u201d with Indonesia to achieve the decided targets.<\/p>\n
The premier noted that Pakistan\u2019s current bilateral trade with Indonesia stood at $4.5 billion, out of which more than 90 per cent were palm oil imports.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have discussed how to take corrective measures to balance this balance of trade through agricultural exports from Pakistan through IT-led initiatives,\u201d adding that the \u201ctrade gap\u201d can be filled in many other areas as well.<\/p>\n
The premier shared that the two countries had reached an agreement to send Pakistani doctors, dentists and other medical professionals to Indonesia.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI assure you that whatever is possible for us in this behalf, we will do it without any delay and with great pleasure,\u201d PM Shehbaz expressed, reaffirming Pakistan\u2019s commitment to its \u201cbrotherly nation.\u201d<\/p>\n
PM Shehbaz conveyed Pakistan\u2019s \u201cwarmth and sincerity\u201d to Indonesia in his address.<\/p>\n
He noted that the Indonesian president\u2019s visit coincided with the anniversary of Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic relations with Indonesia.<\/p>\n
On that note, the premier stressed, \u201cLet us agree to celebrate these 75 years with great fanfare in Jakarta and in Islamabad simultaneously, that will convey a very loud and clear message to all and sundry.\u201d<\/p>\n
The prime minister recalled that the two nations\u2019 relations \u201cpredated\u201d their independence.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, supported the war of independence of Indonesia while he was president of the All India Muslim League,\u201d he said, lauding the \u201cgreat heroic struggle of the Indonesian people.\u201d<\/p>\n
The premier continued: \u201cLittle did we know in 1965, our war against our neighbouring country, (Indonesia) stood with Pakistan like a rock, and this has gone into the annals of history with golden words.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be remembered by the people of Pakistan for all time to come,\u201d PM Shehbaz added.<\/p>\n
He also appreciated the country\u2019s \u201cunwavering stand\u201d on Gaza, stressing that Indonesia\u2019s support had \u201cresulted in peace in that part of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
