{"id":15423,"date":"2026-01-20T04:11:24","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T04:11:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=15423"},"modified":"2026-01-20T04:11:24","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T04:11:24","slug":"in-first-speech-as-na-opposition-leader-achakzai-vows-unconditional-support-for-strengthening-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=15423","title":{"rendered":"In first speech as NA opposition leader, Achakzai vows \u2018unconditional support\u2019 for strengthening house"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In his first speech after being appointed the opposition leader in the National Assembly, Tehreek Tahafuz-i-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Monday vowed unconditional support for strengthening the lower house of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth mentioning that several parts of Achakzai\u2019s nearly 30-minute speech were muted in the NA\u2019s livestream.<\/p>\n<p>At the outset of his address, Achakzai said: \u201cThe TTAP makes a promise to the whole country \u2014 if you wish to strengthen this house \u2026 you will receive our unconditional support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout this house, we are nothing,\u201d he said, adding that the NA should be at the centre of Pakistan\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMistakes happen in the world. Sit, think, sleep on it, as they say in English. What\u2019s happened has happened but having animosity and hurling abuse at each other will not help us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting the Holy Quran, Achakzai said that work which focused on welfare and aid must be supported. \u201cWhenever you talk about the public\u2019s welfare, our votes will be with you,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want this house to be a reflection of strength \u2026 that Pakistan\u2019s domestic and foreign policies emerge from it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Achakzai also requested that lawmakers treat each other with respect both inside and outside of parliament and refrain from \u201csaying things you would not say in front of your mothers or sisters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In his address, Achakzai also said that he was not someone who \u201csold his vote\u201d. He asserted that he had not broken the oath he had taken.<\/p>\n<p>In his address, he also talked about PTI founder Imran Khan. He said he was grateful for Imran and the party for nominating him as the NA opposition leader.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was also grateful for NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, for appointing him after a delay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor five months, this house functioned without an opposition leader, which is very wrong \u2026 these people are the true representatives of this house who voted for me,\u201d he said, gesturing to the opposition benches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ready to go to any extent for strengthening this house,\u201d he said, as the opposition thumped their benches.<\/p>\n<p>Talking about the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, he said, \u201cI wish they were used for strengthening this house \u2026 it is still not too late.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In his first speech after being appointed the opposition leader in the National Assembly, Tehreek Tahafuz-i-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Monday vowed unconditional support for strengthening the lower house of Parliament.
