{"id":15432,"date":"2026-01-20T04:12:33","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T04:12:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=15432"},"modified":"2026-01-20T04:12:33","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T04:12:33","slug":"iran-says-internet-to-return-gradually-after-11-day-blackout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=15432","title":{"rendered":"Iran says internet to return \u2018gradually\u2019 after 11-day blackout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022 Davos disinvites FM Araghchi over \u2018tragic\u2019 crackdown<br \/>\n\u2022 UN condemns use of executions as \u2018a tool of state intimidation\u2019<\/p>\n<p>TEHRAN: Internet access in Iran will \u201cgradually\u201d return to normal this week, a senior official said on Monday, as the government faces international fallout from an 11-day communications blackout imposed during deadly anti-government protests.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement came the same day organisers of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, confirmed the Iranian foreign minister would not attend the summit because it would not be \u201cright\u201d following the recent crackdown.<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, the United Nations issued a report condemning Tehran for using executions as a \u201ctool of state intimidation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe internet will gradually return to normal operations this week,\u201d Hossein Afshin, Iran\u2019s vice president for science, technology and the knowledge economy, said on Monday on state television.<\/p>\n<p>The government imposed a nationwide communications blackout earlier this month amid huge demonstrations triggered by anger over economic hardship.<\/p>\n<p>Limited internet access briefly returned on Sunday for some foreign websites such as Google, but opening links from search results remained impossible as of Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The shutdown began on Jan 8. Norway-based Iran Human Rights said it has verified the deaths of 3,428 protesters killed by security forces, confirming cases through sources within the Islamic Republic\u2019s health and medical system, witnesses and independent sources.<\/p>\n<p>The NGO warned the true toll is likely far higher.
