call restrictions \u2018impractical, distressing and likely to cause confusion\u2019<br \/>\n\u2022 Considering ground realities, it would be difficult for authorities to enforce \u2018complete implementation\u2019, remarks opposition leader Khurshidi<\/p>\n<p>KARACHI: The Sindh government\u2019s decision to limit wedding guests to 200 has sparked fears, leaving many in a dilemma and unsure whether to invite or attend functions.<\/p>\n<p>The provincial government, as part of its \u201causterity\u201d drive in the wake of the Middle East war, took a host of measures, including limiting number of guests at wedding ceremonies or any other party to 200 with one-dish serving.<\/p>\n<p>Families who had already sent invitations to their loved ones months in advance are now worried about financial implications of reducing the number of guests, having already booked venues and caterers.<\/p>\n<p>The Karachi Marriage Hall Owners Association (KMHOA) expressed grave concern over the government\u2019s decision and said it was not practical to implement it.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to Dawn, KMHOA president Rana Raees demanded that the government reconsider its decision as it would lead to a great deal of difficulty for both hosts and guests of the wedding functions.<\/p>\n<p>He said it would not be easy for people to pick and choose their guests. \u201cThe invited guests will also be confused whether to attend the function,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Raees said that it would also be very difficult for the management of marriage halls to stop the excessive guests from attending the function.<\/p>\n<p>Distress and inconvenience<\/p>\n<p>A mother of a bride-to-be said that the provincial government\u2019s decision had caused distress and inconvenience to her and many others. \u201cIt\u2019s like we\u2019re being punished for something we can\u2019t control,\u201d she sighed.<\/p>\n<p>A groom-to-be said that he had no idea the government would impose such a restriction. \u201cWe\u2019ve already sent invites to over 500 guests and paid for the marriage hall and caterer accordingly,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The decision left many feeling helpless and frustrated. \u201cWhat\u2019s the point of even having a marriage function if we can\u2019t invite our extended family and friends?\u201d asked a groom\u2019s father.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just about the number of guests, it\u2019s about celebrating a once-in-a-lifetime occasion with the people we love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s decision has also raised questions about its effectiveness in implementing the measures to conserve fuel.<\/p>\n<p>KMHOA chief Rana Raees said that number of guests didn\u2019t impact energy consumption. \u201cGuests arrive from homes with lights and gas off, saving energy, and food is cooked in one place, saving gas,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the families attending marriages also carpool, saving fuel. \u201cThe decision will hurt the marriage hall industry only and pressure the public and workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He urged the provincial government to withdraw the notification.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the government is serious about controlling the fuel consumption, why are markets and public transport still crowded?\u201d asks Dr Azka, whose cousin\u2019s marriage was scheduled after Eid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022 Marriage hall owners urge govt to reconsider decision;
