{"id":17077,"date":"2026-03-25T09:10:51","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T09:10:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=17077"},"modified":"2026-03-25T09:10:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T09:10:51","slug":"pakistan-joins-unsc-in-denouncing-illegal-israeli-settlements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=17077","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan joins UNSC in denouncing illegal Israeli settlements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON: Pakistan on Tuesday joined seven other members of the UN Security Council in reiterating firm opposition to the annexation of any part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the forcible displacement of the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n<p>All seven nations warned that such actions violated international law and undermined prospects for peace.<\/p>\n<p>The briefing, however, was delayed because the Israeli Ambassador Danny Dannon occupied the microphone and spo\u00adke first, although Pakistan pointed out that the slot was reserved for the seven-nation stakeout. Asked to explain Israel\u2019s position abo\u00adut reported US-Iran peace talks in Islam\u00adabad, Dannon said that Israel has \u201ccontinued its participation\u201d in the war and will \u201ccontinue to attack targets\u201d until it achieves its objectives.<\/p>\n<p>At a Security Council press stakeout, Pakistan delivered the first portion of a joint statement on behalf of Bahrain, Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, Pakis\u00adtan, Somalia and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>Tel Aviv envoy \u2018hogs the mic\u2019 ahead of stakeout; vows not to participate in Iran peace talks until \u2018objectives achieved\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuided by the UN Charter and recalling the relevant UN Security Council re\u00ad\u00ads\u00ad\u00adolutions, including resolution 2334, we re\u00aditerate our firm opposition to annexat\u00adi\u00ad\u00adon of any part of the Occupied Pales\u00adti\u00adn\u00adian Territory, and to any forcible displ\u00ada\u00adc\u00ad\u00adement of the Palestinian people,\u201d said the joint statement read by Pak\u00adis\u00adtan\u2019s UN ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad.<\/p>\n<p>The group recalled that the council \u201chas condemned all measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status of the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>They stressed that such measures \u201cviolate international law, undermine ongoing peace efforts, run counter to the comprehensive plan and jeopardise the prospect of achieving just and lasting peace\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The statement underscored that the council \u201chas also demanded that Israel immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem,\u201d and that it fully respect all of its legal obligations in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>Describing settlements as illegal, the members said: \u201cThis illegal settlement policy and Israeli settlers\u2019 continuous and escalating attacks against the Palestinian civilian population, as well as the violence against Palestinian communities, including the recent killing of Palestinian children by Israeli forces, are unacceptable and must be brought to an immediate end and we call for those responsible to be held to account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the second segment of the stakeout, delivered by Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont of France, the members reaffirmed \u201cthe council\u2019s call for the preservation of the historic status quo at the holy sites in Jerusalem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They expressed \u201cdeep concern regarding the grave humanitarian and economic situation unfolding in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,\u201d attributing it \u201cnotably due to the severe restrictions on movement and access and to the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues by Israel.\u201d The group added: \u201cWe call for these matters to be addressed urgently.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON: Pakistan on Tuesday joined seven other members of the UN Security Council in reiterating firm opposition to the annexation of any part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the forcible displacement of the Palestinian people.
