{"id":4636,"date":"2025-01-13T06:46:21","date_gmt":"2025-01-13T06:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=4636"},"modified":"2025-01-13T06:46:21","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T06:46:21","slug":"dont-validate-talibans-gender-apartheid-malala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=4636","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t validate Taliban\u2019s \u2018gender apartheid\u2019: Malala"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022 Nobel laureate calls upon Muslim world to stand up for Afghan women<br \/>\n\u2022 Censures Israel for \u2018decimating\u2019 Gaza\u2019s education system<br \/>\n\u2022 Islamabad Declaration recognises girls\u2019 education as religious obligation<\/p>\n<p>ISLAMABAD: Nobel laureate and activist Malala Yousafzai has urged Muslim leaders not to \u201clegitimise\u201d the Taliban government in Afgha\u00adnistan and recognise it as \u201cperpetrators of gender apartheid\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In her address to the International Conference on Girls\u2019 Education in Muslim Communities on Sunday, Ms Yousafzai lambasted Israel for destroying educational institutions in Gaza and the Kabul regime for systemically stopping Afghan girls from getting an education.<\/p>\n<p>She said the Afghan Taliban have \u201cripped away the right to learn\u201d from Afghan girls by banning their education beyond Grade 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have weaponised our faith to justify it,\u201d she said, adding the Afghan Taliban want to \u201celiminate women and girls from every aspect of public life and erase them from society\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>They punish women and girls who go against their decrees by \u201cbeating them up, detaining them and harming them\u201d, she said of the Afghan government, which declined the invitation to attend the conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey [Taliban] cloak their crimes in cultural and religious justification, but let us be absolutely clear; there is nothing Islamic about this. These policies do not reflect the teachings of Islam. In fact, they go against everything our faith stands for,\u201d Ms Yousafzai added.<\/p>\n<p>She called upon the Muslim leaders to \u201cstand up for Afghan women\u201d and recognise the Taliban regime as perpetrators of gender apartheid. \u201cDo not legitimise them. Do not make compromises on our faith,\u201d she implored.<\/p>\n<p>Call out Israel<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old Nobel laureate also criticised Israeli atrocities in Gaza, especially the damage inflicted on the education system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael has decimated the entire education system. They have bombed all universities, destroyed 90 per cent of schools and indiscriminately attacked civilians sheltering in school buildings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPalestinian children have lost their lives and future.
