{"id":7570,"date":"2025-03-29T10:40:31","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T10:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=7570"},"modified":"2025-03-29T10:40:31","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T10:40:31","slug":"serial-violator-pakistan-fires-back-at-india-fm-jaishankar-over-minority-rights-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=7570","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Serial violator\u2019: Pakistan fires back at India FM Jaishankar over minority rights claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pakistan on Saturday rejected Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar\u2019s claims of minority mistreatment, instead saying that India was a \u201cserial violator\u201d of minority rights with a record \u201cmarred by egregious and systemic violations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Jaishankar called out Pakistan for \u201ccrimes and atrocities against minorities\u201d during a parliament session, Indian media Hindustan Times reported. He was quoted as saying, \u201cWe follow very closely and track the treatment of minorities in Pakistan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said that there were 10 cases of \u201catrocities\u201d against the Hindu community in Feb. He also claimed similar incidents against the Sikhs, Christians and Ahmadis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 Pakistan is a country where human rights abuses, the persecution of minorities, and the systematic erosion of democratic values are state policies, and it harbours UN-sanctioned terrorists,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Indian minister also said New Delhi is making its position \u201cwell known\u201d but cannot change the \u201cfanatical and bigoted mindset\u201d of a neighbouring country [Pakistan], according to an Indian outlet The Times of India.<\/p>\n<p>A Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson said in a statement, \u201cIndia is in no position to champion minority rights, as it remains a serial violator of those very rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement said that state institutions in Pakistan work actively to protect minorities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn stark contrast, incidents targeting minorities in India frequently occur with the tacit approval \u2014 or even complicity \u2014 of elements within the ruling dispensation,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>It further stated, \u201cThe systematic promotion of hatred, discrimination, and violence against minorities in India is well-documented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement said, \u201cIndia\u2019s record is marred by egregious and systemic violations of minority rights, particularly those of Muslims,\u201d citing the \u201cdiscriminatory\u201d Citizenship Amendment Act, 2002 Gujarat massacre, 2020 Delhi pogrom, demolition of the Babri Mosque in 1992, as well as attacks on mosques and shrines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRather than feigning concern for minorities elsewhere, the Indian government would do well to address its own failures,\u201d the FO said, urging India to ensure the protection of minorities \u2014 including Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said the treatment of minorities in Pakistan and India was deteriorating.<\/p>\n<p>The panel recommended that Pakistan should be redesignated as a \u201cCountry of Particular Concern\u201d for engaging in \u201csystematic, ongoing and egregious violations of religious freedom\u201d. Meanwhile, it said regarding India: \u201cIn 2024, religious freedom conditions in India continued to deteriorate as attacks and discrimination against religious minorities continued to rise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, a report by the Human Rights Com\u00ad\u00admission of Pakistan (HRCP) highlighted a growing trend of mob-led attacks against religious minorities in Pakistan.
