{"id":8059,"date":"2025-04-12T00:45:46","date_gmt":"2025-04-12T00:45:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=8059"},"modified":"2025-04-12T00:45:46","modified_gmt":"2025-04-12T00:45:46","slug":"psl-10-formally-begins-with-glitzy-opening-ceremony-at-rawalpindi-cricket-stadium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=8059","title":{"rendered":"PSL 10 formally begins with glitzy opening ceremony at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The tenth edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) formally began on Thursday with a glitzy opening ceremony at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Among the performers at the ceremony were Abida Parveen, Ali Zafar, Natasha Baig and popular rap duo Young Stunners.<\/p>\n<p>Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars kicked off the first match of the tournament at 8:30pm.<\/p>\n<p>That it marks a decade of the country\u2019s very own cash-rich franchise T20 tournament, is probably one of the very few special things about this year\u2019s PSL, given where Pakistan cricket stands today.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament has come amid the Pakistan Cricket Board\u2019s (PCB) administrative turmoil and the national team\u2019s spiralling decline over the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>The PSL \u2018X\u2019, as it has been named this year, also coincides with the ongoing dissatisfaction of the biggest stakeholders of the league \u2014 the team owners \u2014 over its progress in the last 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Cricket will take centre stage today and Rawalpindi will be in the thick of it, with the venue to host 11 matches this year, the most it has ever since the PSL\u2019s inception.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament is slated to run until May 18, with a significant part of it to run parallel with the Indian Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-match tournament comprises of three-double headers, while the remaining fixtures will be single headers taking place across Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi.<\/p>\n<p>The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is set to host 13 matches including the qualifier, eliminator and the final. The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will host 11 matches, while Multan Cricket Stadium and the National Stadium in Karachi will witness five matches each this year.<\/p>\n<p>The six teams will also be locking horns to take away the $500,000 prize money set for the winners, while the runners-up team will be awarded $200,000.<\/p>\n<p>5,000 cops deployed for \u2018foolproof\u2019 security<br \/>\nThe Rawalpindi police have set in place \u201cfoolproof\u201d security measures, including providing 5,000 cops for the tournament, according to a police spokesman.<\/p>\n<p>The security arrangements have been made in coordination with the Pakistan Army, Rangers and other agencies.
