{"id":8102,"date":"2025-04-14T03:42:13","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T03:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=8102"},"modified":"2025-04-14T03:42:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T03:42:13","slug":"pakistan-hopes-for-irans-full-cooperation-in-probe-over-killing-of-its-8-nationals-fo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=8102","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan hopes for Iran\u2019s \u2018full cooperation\u2019 in probe over killing of its 8 nationals: FO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pakistan on Sunday sought Iran\u2019s \u201cfull cooperation\u201d in investigating the \u201cinhumane and cowardly\u201d killing of eight of its nationals yesterday in the neighbouring country\u2019s Sistan-Baluchestan province, the Foreign Office said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPakistan strongly condemns the inhumane and cowardly killing of its nationals in Iran. We hope for Iranian side\u2019s full cooperation in investigating the matter and in timely repatriation of victims\u2019 remains,\u201d said a press release issued by the FO.<\/p>\n<p>The Pakistani nationals were \u201ctragically killed\u201d in Mehrestan County, located approximately 230 kilometres away from the Pakistan-Iran border, it stated.<\/p>\n<p>According to earlier reports, un\u00ad\u00adknown armed men barged into a workshop sometime on Saturday night and, after tying the workers\u2019 hands and feet, opened indiscriminate firing and killed them. Later, the attackers fled from the site.<\/p>\n<p>All eight workers hailed from several areas of Punjab, the Associated Press of Pakistan stated, listing their names.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the banned outfit, the Balochistan National Army (BNA), claimed responsibility for the incident through a statement issued to the media. However, AFP reported that militant group Jaishul Adl also claimed responsibility for the attack.<\/p>\n<p>According to the FO, Pakistani officials in Iran were in \u201cconstant touch\u201d with the authorities there for a probe into the incident and the repatriation of bodies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister\/Foreign Minister [Ishaq Dar], our Embassy in Tehran and our Consulate in Zahidan are in constant touch with the Iranian authorities for a comprehensive investigation to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice as well as for prompt repatriation of the victims\u2019 remains to Pakistan,\u201d the FO said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Mission has already requested consular access to verify their identities,\u201d it added. The FO noted that the leadership and people of Pakistan were \u201cdeeply saddened and perturbed over the tragic incident\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Further updates would be provided as soon as additional details regarding the identification of bodies and the \u201ccircumstances leading to their tragic deaths become available\u201d, it continued.<\/p>\n<p>Following the incident yesterday, Iranian police had rushed to the area and shifted the bodies to a hospital after recovering them.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian authorities said the police were investigating the incident.<\/p>\n<p>It was the second such incident in Sistan-Baluchestan, as nine Pakistani workers hailing from Punjab were gunned down by unidentified attackers on Jan 27, 2024 in the province.<\/p>\n<p>That incident came the same month Pakistan conducted retaliatory strikes on terrorist hideouts in Sistan-Baluchestan after Iran laun\u00adched attacks on the border town of Panjgur in Balochistan here.<\/p>\n<p>Balochistan, which borders Sistan-Baluchestan, has witnessed a spate of attacks targeting those hailing from Punjab.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pakistan on Sunday sought Iran\u2019s \u201cfull cooperation\u201d in investigating the \u201cinhumane and cowardly\u201d killing of eight of its nationals yesterday in the neighbouring country\u2019s Sistan-Baluchestan province, the Foreign Office said. \u201cPakistan strongly condemns the inhumane and cowardly killing of its nationals in Iran.
