{"id":9870,"date":"2025-06-08T00:46:38","date_gmt":"2025-06-08T00:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=9870"},"modified":"2025-06-08T00:46:38","modified_gmt":"2025-06-08T00:46:38","slug":"iran-afghan-taliban-chief-assail-us-travel-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyyoung.pk\/?p=9870","title":{"rendered":"Iran, Afghan Taliban chief assail US travel ban"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tehran and the Afghan Taliban chief denounced on Saturday the US travel ban on the citizens of 12 mostly Middle Eastern and African countries, saying Washington\u2019s decision was a sign of a \u201cracist mentality\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump signed on Wednesday an executive order reviving sweeping restrictions that echo his first-term travel ban, justified on national security grounds following a firebomb attack at a pro-Israel rally in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Alireza Hashemi-Raja, the foreign ministry\u2019s director general for the affairs of Iranians abroad, called the measure, which takes effect June 9, \u201ca clear sign of the dominance of a supremacist and racist mentality among American policymakers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The decision \u201cindicates the deep hostility of American decision-makers towards the Iranian and Muslim people\u201d, he added in a statement released by the ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from Iran, the US ban targets nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. A partial ban was imposed on travellers from seven other countries.<\/p>\n<p>Hashemi-Raja said the policy \u201cviolates fundamental principles of international law\u201d and deprives \u201chundreds of millions of people of the right to travel based solely on their nationality or religion\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The foreign ministry official said that the ban was discriminatory and would \u201centail international responsibility for the US government\u201d, without elaborating.<\/p>\n<p>Iran and the US severed diplomatic ties shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and relations have remained deeply strained since.<\/p>\n<p>The United States is home to the largest Iranian community outside Iran.<\/p>\n<p>According to figures from Tehran\u2019s foreign ministry, in 2020, there were some 1.5 million Iranians in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s executive order came days after Sunday\u2019s attack at the Colorado rally, in which authorities said more than a dozen people were hurt.
