The situation for infants in the besieged territory is worsening as baby formula prices are surging due to severe shortages, Laila al-Shana, project manager with the NGO, Humans To Be, told Al Jazeera.
“There is no food for infants like fruits or vegetables or even medicines for them,” she told the media outlet from the Bureij refugee camp.
She explained that the cost of baby formula has soared to about $100 per can.
“I can’t buy it for my children, so I’m very afraid for them. … It’s like it’s threatening the lives of infants all around Gaza,” she said.
Al-Shana’s work at the non-profit organisation involved providing psychological support to children, but she said that aspect has come to a halt.
“I stopped … because the most important thing before making psychological decisions … is they should have food. That is a priority,” she said.
