India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed closure reports for both cases linked to the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

According to Times of India, in its final reports submitted to a special court in Patna and before a Mumbai court, the agency ruled out any foul play, including external pressure or criminal conspiracy.

The first case was filed by Rajput’s father, K K Singh, accusing actor Rhea Chakraborty, who was Rajput’s girlfriend at the time of his death, of abetment to suicide and financial misconduct. The second case was registered by Chakraborty herself, alleging Rajput’s sister was involved in medical malpractice. The CBI has reportedly cleared Chakraborty and her family.

The move brings the high-profile investigation, which has lasted nearly five years, one step closer to a legal conclusion.

The decision of whether to accept the findings or call for further investigation now rests with the respective courts.

The investigation into the actor’s death included extensive forensic analysis, a detailed inspection of the scene, and statements from individuals close to Rajput.

Despite widespread speculation and persistent conspiracy theories surrounding the case, the CBI has stated that it found no conclusive evidence indicating foul play or external pressure leading to Rajput’s death.

The CBI’s findings align with AIIMS’ forensic report, which rules out theories of strangulation or poisoning. Earlier, Rajput’s postmortem examination, conducted by Mumbai’s Cooper Hospital, confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging.

Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, expressed his gratitude to the CBI. “We are grateful to the CBI for having thoroughly investigated every aspect of the case from all angles and closed the case,” he said.

Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020.
